Local Activities.

Relax.

Set on 1.5 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens, Steller Inn in Seward is a wonderful spot to pause and recharge. Guests can explore the gardens where hummingbirds and bumblebees feast on flowers, watch salmon swimming in the creek (August-September), pick raspberries (August-September) or simply relax and read a book in a patio chair in a sunny spot in the yard. Enjoy birdwatching? The hotel property offers great habitat for birdwatching.

Bonfire.

The bonfire pit might just be our favorite spot at the hotel. Set beside the creek and amongst the flowers, this is a perfect spot to gather with your group after a long day exploring Seward.

BBQ.

Want to grill your fresh catch? A BBQ area with a charcoal grill is provided for guest use. We’ll provide all the BBQ equipment and oil/foil/seasonings, plus the re-usable serving-ware, plates and silverware you’ll need to enjoy your meal. Catch your fish in Seward - grill them the same day at Steller Inn!

Kayak.

The kayaking opportunities in Seward is world-class. Whether you are an experienced paddler or interested in getting out on the water for the first time, our friends at Kayak Adventures Worldwide have the perfect trip for you. Although we think that a guided trip is the best way to maximize your time exploring the fjords, non-guided kayak rentals are also available for those with experience.

Fish.

Fish on! Our family loves to fish and our guests do too! Charter fishing trips depart daily from the Seward Boat Harbor. Our friends at Puffin Fishing Charters offer full or half-day trips targeting salmon, halibut/rockfish or both. We are happy to store your already-processed catch in our freezers during your stay, as space allows.

Hike.

With mountains, glaciers, wetlands and rainforest right in our backyard, Seward has hikes for every ability-level. We are happy to recommend our favorite trails! Kenai Fjords National Park hosts free daily interpretive hikes at Exit Glacier or if you’re looking to explore off the beaten path, but prefer to company of a guide, check out the hikes offered by Seward Wilderness Collective.

Wildlife Tour.

Some would argue that a trip to Seward is not complete without a trip out on the water. If you aren’t keen on fishing, a wildlife tour is another option for exploring our marine environment. From private, small-boat tours to larger day cruises, a large variety of trip options are available. Depending on the time of year, guests can look forward to spotting whales, seabirds, sea lions, mountain goats, black bears, and of course there’s the glaciers! Our hotel is the perfect spot to relax after a day exploring Kenai Fjords.

SeaLife.

Seward is home to the Alaska SeaLife Center, Alaska’s only public aquarium and marine research facility. Touch invertebrates at the touch tank, observe the countless fish species that thrive in our cold water, get a closer look at seabirds in the aviary, and meet the resident Steller sea lions and harbor seals who call the SeaLife Center home. Take a “behind-the-scenes” tour to learn more about the center’s rehabilitation program and the cutting edge research being conducted there.

Eat.

Visitors are surprised by our small town’s thriving food scene. Sewardites are proud of our local restaurants and cafes, many of which highlight fresh, locally sourced ingredients, always served in a friendly, casual atmosphere. Whether you are looking for local seafood, delicious baked goods or a juicy burger, we are happy to recommend our favorite spots. Our team at Steller Inn is happy to recommend our favorite restaurants.

We look forward to hosting you.
